OMMAC 14: Martin Stapleton grinds out a decision victory over Jason Cooledge
After having to deal with a fight card plagued with injuries, British promotion OMMAC managed to put on a fantastic night of fights. Former UFC fighter Paul Kelly, Wayne Murrie and Tony Moran were all forced to with draw from the event, but as they say “the show must go on”, and it did.
The main event featured a lightweight matchup between Martin Stapleton and Jason Cooledge. The two men engaged in an exciting battle which saw Cooledge show some impressive determination, forcing the fight to go all three rounds. In the end Stapleton was able to get the most out of the exchanges and earned himself the unanimous decision victory. After returning from a three year break from the sport, Martin Stapleton adds a second consecutive victory to his record, having defeated Shahid Hussain in June at FCC 3.
In an unexpected turn of events, we also saw Artem Lobov score a third round TKO victory over Shay Walsh, after losing the first two rounds he managed to finish Shay with a big blow and secure an impressive comeback win. Other notable results include Lee Chadwick's first round TKO win over Stu Tyrie, and Uche Ihiekwe's first round submission win over David Round.

Lewis Long vs. Ian Entwistle takes place at BAMMA 10 in London
The matchup was officially announced by BAMMA via press release.
BAMMA 10 will be headlined by a lightweight title bout between Rob Sinclair and Andre Winner. The show will air LIVE on 5*, with the highlights to be broadcast on the U.K’s Channel 5.
Lewis Long is currently riding a four fight winning streak, most recently defeating Diego Vital via first round TKO at a Colosseum Fighting Championships event in June. Prior to that he scored a unanimous decision win over Jacek Toczydlowski at ‘VOK – The Uprising’, and a first round submission victory over Stuart Davies at ‘VOK 1 – Valley Of Kings’ in May 2011.
Here is what Lewis Long had to say about the upcoming bout:
“I’m very excited; and I’ve got a lot of confidence coming off my last fight, especially on my feet. He’s incredibly aggressive but that won’t last for long. I’m going to go through him, standing or on the ground. It’s really exciting and very prestigious to be fighting at Wembley Arena. I’m also looking forward to see Sinclair because I want him next: I want to smash him too!”
Ian Entwistle is currently riding a two fight winning streak, most recently defeating Michael Bowman via first round submission at OMMAC 13 in March. Prior to that he scored yet another first round submission over Andy Green at Cage Conflict 11 last October, and dropped a submission loss to Brad Wheeler at CWFC 43 in June 2011.
Here is what Ian Entwistle had to say about the scheduled fight:
“I’m feeling really good about the fight and I can’t wait. Since I first started I always wanted to fight on BAMMA, especially the Wembley card and I took the fight for that reason. It’s going to be an all out war. I’ll usually come out and say if I think an opponent’s rubbish, but he’s a good fighter. I’ve got quite a bit of respect for him, but I know that I’m better.”

Kyle Kingsbury vs. Jimi Manuwa added to UFC on FUEL TV 5 in Nottingham
The matchup has reported by various sources this week and has now been officially confirmed by the UFC.
UFC Nottingham will feature a headline bout between Stefan Struve and Stipe Miocic who will engage in a heavyweight battle. The event will air LIVE on Fuel TV with the prelims set to air on Facebook.
Kyle Kingsbury last fought at UFC 146 in May, where he was defeated by Glover Teixeira via first round submission. Prior to that he dropped a unanimous decision to Stephan Bonnar at UFC 139 last November. His last victory was against Fabio Maldonado at The Ultimate Fighter 13 Final, where he scored a controversial unanimous decision win and earned “Fight of the Night” honors. With two losses in a row Kingsbury badly needs a win to secure his position within the promotion against Manuwa.
Unbeaten Jimi Manuwa is currently riding an 11 fight winning streak, most recently defeating Antony Rea via TKO at BAMMA 8 last December. Just prior to that he scored a first round TKO win over Nick Chapman at UCMMA 24, and another first round stoppage over Valentino Petrescu at UCMMA 14. This British knockout specialist will no doubt look to make a big impression on the UFC with a good performance over Kingsbury in his debut.

UFC 149 winner Matt Riddle calls out British striker Dan Hardy
In one of the more exciting fights at UFC 149, we got to see Matt Riddle take on Chris Clements in a back and forth scrap, the fight came to an end when Riddle locked in a tight arm-triangle choke that gave Clements no option but to tap. The submission win earned Matt Riddle “Submission of the Night” honors and a $65,000 cheque to take home.
Here is what Riddle said after he was asked why he wants to face Dan Hardy:
“Whoever they give me is whoever they give me, I am down to fight anybody, anytime, anywhere” He then went on to say “I just picked Dan Hardy because he has got a lot of hype behind him, I know if I beat him it will put me on the map for sure. You know, that's the only reason why, I have nothing personal against him just like he has nothing personal against me. A win over Dan Hardy and I guarantee everybody knows my name afterwards”
The Dana White said:
“I heard Riddle hates English people”
Then Riddle who competed at UFC 105 in Manchester said:
“I will be completely honest, when I fought in Manchester, they were very cruel to me. One fan actually spat directly in my face and he was lucky enough where it hit my mouth.”
Whilst laughing White said:
“Wow. I was kidding.”
Riddle continued to say:
“I don't have anything against English people. But to be disrespected like that, that was the part that really upset me. Everybody up here on this table is a world class athlete and we should be treated as a world class athlete. And for some butter-toothed Brit to spit in my mouth, that was some bull.”
White finished the topic by saying:
“We are definitely making the Dan Hardy fight!”
Dan Hardy is currently scheduled to fight Amir Sadollah at UFC Nottingham in September, who knows if/when we will see Riddle vs. Hardy? but I would love to see it!

BAMMA 10: Jack Marshman vs. Andrew Punshon for the British middleweight title
The matchup was announced by BAMMA today via official press release.
BAMMA 10 will take place on September 15th at the Wembley Arena in London. The event will be headlined by a lightweight title bout between Rob Sinclair and Andre Winner. The show will air LIVE on 5*, with the highlights to be broadcast on the U.K’s Channel 5.
Jack Marshman last fought at BAMMA 9 in March, where he lost via TKO against Tom “Kong” Watson in a middleweight championship bout which was Marshman’s only professional MMA loss. Prior to that he was on a 10 fight winning streak, most recently defeating Lee Barnes via unanimous decision in December 2011, and Carl Noon via third round TKO at BAMMA 7 in September.
Here is what Jack Marshman said about the fight:
“Andrew’s got some knock out power behind him and a strong ground game but I still think I’ll be too much for him to handle in all areas. It’s been a while since my last fight so it’s good to be back. I’ve been concentrating on my boxing recently and I’ve maintained a good level of fighting fitness but I’m looking forward to a hard camp for this fight.”
Fights don’t tend to last very long when Andrew Punshon is involved, he last fought at SFC 6 in May where he scored a first round submission victory over Chris Clarke. Just prior to that he was defeated by Patrick Vallee at BAMMA 9, which snapped a two fight winning streak which included wins over Shaun Lomas and Denniston Sutherland in 2011. Only two of Punshon’s professional fights have ever gone past the first round.
Andrew Punshon said:
“I have been wanting to fight Jack Marshman on BAMMA for ages and am really excited that it’s going ahead. It’s going to be an absolute war!”

Women Fight Back: All women's fight card in aid of victim support to take place in U.K.
In the MMA world it is rare to see an all women’s event or fight card, but in recent years this has changed with the introduction of promotions such as Invicta FC which are aimed at solely promoting women’s MMA. An event has recently been set up in the U.K. Called ‘Women Fight Back’ which will feature eight British female MMA bouts all on one card. The event has been put together to help raise money for victim support.
The event which is presented by Colosseum Sports and sponsored by Cage Queen will take place at Fight Science Gym in Aldershot on Aug. 25th. The driving force behind Women Fight Back is Emma Smith, owner of Aphrodite Ring Girls and partner to Colosseum Sports promoter, Gary Bond.
Here is what Emma Smith had to say about the upcoming event:
“Victim support helped me out so much, years ago when I was in a very volatile marriage; and that’s what inspired me to want to do something that would give back to Victim Support, as they do such a fantastic job. Everyone I have approached to volunteer their time for this event has been really up for contributing to the cause. I’d like to thank Victim Support for the changes they made in my life and to all the people who have donated their time and effort into making this event possible. It has brought together people from different parts of the industry for a positive purpose and I’m really proud of that achievement and everyone involved.”
Women Fight Back has received a lot of support from the Mixed Martial Arts world and will feature a host of personalities who have decided to contribute to the event. UFC referee, Michelle Drake Browning, will be flying in from the United States to oversee the fights. World #2 ranking women’s flyweight Rosi Sexton and UFC competitor, Oli Thompson will be part of the judging team, Bret ‘Hollywood’ Freeman, will be bringing his glitter-factor to the mic, next to presenter, Cherelle-Jay O’Donnell, daughter to legendary promoter Cage Rage Dave.
Here is what Maralyn Smith, Victim Support Divisional Manager for Surrey said:
“We always appreciate it when people and other organizations take the initiative to raise much needed funds for Victim Support. I’m delighted that we helped Emma Smith when she needed us the most during her volatile marriage. The money raised from this event will support victims of domestic violence and other crimes.”
This event is good for women’s MMA, UK MMA, and most importantly victim support which is a national charity for people affected by crime and gives help to over 1 million people every year. The funds raised at this event will go towards training 6,000 volunteers who give free and confidential information, emotional support, and practical help to anyone affected by crime, whether or not it has been reported and regardless of when it happened.
Here is the ‘Women Fight Back’ fight card:

One of the good things about Wroxer is that it is not centred around the violent aspect of MMA, instead it is presented in a non-violent way aimed at teaching kids that there is an inner fighter in all of us.

Quinton Jackson talks about his new “Rampage Punch” phone app, MMA and more…
Users get to choose what material they are going to be punching from glass, wood or metal then after the bell sounds you throw your punch and the app uses the latest phone technology developed by MEDL Mobile, inc. to measure the speed and force of your punch. Once the punch has been thrown the app records your reaction time and force to give you an overall percentage rating on your performance.
I got the chance to ask Quinton "Rampage" Jackson a few questions about "Rampage Punch" and more:
Jay Cee: "Hi Rampage, I would first like to ask you what made you decide to do your own app?"
Rampage: "First off I have to say I’m not just limited to being just a fighter. I have other skills...I can walk, I can read, I enjoy video games and I enjoy apps. I just like entertaining people and if I can entertain people by giving them a cool app than why not."
Jay Cee: "How did you come up with the concept for the app?"
Rampage: "I came up with concept of the app when I saw how smartphones were taking off. I was on sports science and I tested my punch and I wanted everyone to be able to test their punch and show it to their friends and Medl mobile had a great idea to be able to post it to Facebook and Twitter. I just thought it was a no brainer and its a really cool game. It was cool to bring one of my ideas to life."
Jay Cee: "There are a lot off apps out there on the market, what is it about "Rampage Punch" that you think sets it apart from other games?"
Rampage: "Something that sets it apart from other games is that it has a little bit of my personality in it. You hear my voice and if you do good you hear me congratulating you and if you do crap you get me telling you crap. There’s not a lot of games out there that are like that. If someone is my fan than it's a great game for them to have."
Jay Cee: "Other then releasing "Rampage Punch" what have you been up to since your last fight against Ryan Bader in Japan at UFC 144?"
Rampage: "I’ve just been rehabing and taking things slow. Playing a lot of video games. Other than that not doing much of anything."
Jay Cee: "There has been a lot of talk in the media about you wanting to leave the UFC, will we see you in the octagon again? and if so is there anyone in particular that you would like to fight?"
Rampage: "I’m not saying I’m gonna leave MMA. There’s a couple of guys I want to fight. I want to fight people that have beat me in the past. I would love to fight people that have been talking to smack, definitely Justin Boner. He’s been running his mouth a little bit, I would love to put my foot in his mouth."
Jay Cee: "Ok, well thanks for the time Rampage. Can't wait to see you back in action and I am sure that "Rampage Punch" will be a hit with the fans."
Check out this video of Rampage trying out "Rampage Punch" for himself:
I have tried the app out for myself and it is great fun, one of the best things about it is the feedback you get from Rampage Jackson. Some of the comments from Quinton will definitely have you laughing! This is a fantastic app so make sure you give it a try for yourself:

Product Review: Evolution Fightwear Sparring Shorts
Style and Appearance
The shorts are black with all the logo's in white, black and white is a very basic combination of colors but always looks good. There is a large vertical Evolution Fightwear logo located on the right side of the shorts which is stitched/sewn into the shorts rather then printed which ensures durability, it is less likely to wear or fade in the long run which is great. There is also a small horizontal logo located on the front of the shorts on the left leg and another logo on the waistband section of the shorts which is printed on rubber. Very basic design suited to those who like a low profile yet bold look.
Design and Fit
Main thing to point out here is how light these shorts are, they are made from a lightweight material which I found was great for pad work and also cardio related gym training. They are a great fit and very comfortable, there is also a tie up string integrated into the waistband section for those of you who may wish to have a slightly tighter fit. These shorts are not really suitable for grappling or wrestling etc. as the material is very light and may be vulnerable to tears if put under too much stress, however they are well made with quality stitching and should stand the test of time.
Performance and Functionality
As mentioned before these shorts are really light and great for speed and maneuverability. If you do muay thai or kickboxing you will find that these shorts are perfect for training. The shorts have slits on either side allowing for additional movement, so if you are training for kicks they do not restrict you in any way.
Overall Analysis
These shorts have a simple yet effective design with a stylish black and white base color scheme that looks great. If you are interested in a light weight pair of shorts to use when you are doing your sparring, pad work, gym training or kickboxing then you will love these.
Thanks to you the readers, Evolution Fightwear and UltimateFightwear.co.uk for sending me the product.
If you are interested in getting yourself a pair of these shorts go to the Ultimate Fightwear online store using the following link - CLICK HERE
Please remember that everything written in this review is purely my own opinion based on my own use of the product. Thanks guys!
