Lavar Johnson will take on Joey Beltran at UFC on Fox 2

News has recently emerged that heavyweight fighters Lavar Johnson and Joey Beltran will take each other on at UFC on Fox 2. This event is set to take place on the 28th of January 2012 at Chicago's United Center. The fight is expected to be part of the preliminary card for the evening.

Lavar Johnson will be making his first ever UFC appearance on the night after making a move over from Strikeforce who are closing down their heavyweight division. He will enter the fight with an MMA record of 15-5 and an unfortunate two fight losing streak. He has lost his last two fights to Shane del Rosario and Shawn Jordan, both defeats came by submission. Prior to those fights Johnson had won seven fights in a row. Lavar will now look to get himself back on track by starting his UFC career with a win over the "Mexicutioner".

Joey Beltran enters this fight with an MMA record of 13-6 and is coming off a loss to Stipe Miocic in his last fight at UFC 136. He lost that fight via unanimous decision and really does need a win to keep the UFC bosses happy. He is 1-3 in his last four fights, with his only victory coming against Aaron Rosa at UFC 131. The other two losses were to Pat Barry and Matt MitrioneFights involving "The Mexicutioner" are always exciting and he always gives 100%. This heavyweight battle against Lavar Johnson should be no different. I am looking forward to seeing what happens.

Thanks guys,

Jay Cee.

Thiago "Pitbull" Alves Vs Martin Kampmann is set to take place at UFC on FX 2

News has recently emerged that Thiago Alves and Martin Kampmann will battle each other in a headline fight at UFC on FX 2. This event is set to take place on the 3rd of March 2012 in Sydney, Australia.

Thiago Alves will enter this fight with an MMA record of 19-8. The Pitbull's most recent fight was against Papi Abedi at UFC 138 which took place in Birmingham, England. Alves won that fight by locking in a rear naked choke in the first round and submitting his opponent. This victory was a good way to bounce back after Thiago's previous fight which he lost to Rick Story at UFC 130. A win over Kampmann would be big for Thiago Alves and would prove to the fans and the UFC that he is truly back on form.

Martin Kampmann has an MMA record of 18-5 and is currently coming off a huge victory over Rick Story. The fight took place at UFC 139 which was held in November of this year, Kampmann won the bout via decision ending a two fight losing streak. The two losses were against Jake Sheilds and Diego Sanchez giving Kampmann his first set of back to back losses in his MMA career. If Martin can follow up the victory against Rick Story with a win against Thiago Alves then it really will give him some serious weight in the welterweight division going forward.

Thanks guys,
Jay Cee.

Interview with UFC fighter Charlie "The Spaniard" Brenneman

I recently got the chance to catch up with welterweight UFC fighter Charlie "The Spaniard" Brenneman. Check it out...

Jay Cee: "Hi Charlie, great to have you on themmareview.co.uk. I will start by asking you about your last fight against Anthony Johnson. Tell me your thoughts on the fight and what you think went wrong on the night? What will you take away from that fight?"

Charlie: "It was just not my night. When it was time to perform, he was the better athlete. You always take things from a loss. I was able to restructure my training to make it more efficient for my personal style. There are only so many hours in the day, so you have to pick and choose all the elements of your training carefully."

Jay Cee: "Before the fight against Johnson you scored a massive victory against Rick Story in a fight which I personally found very entertaining. It was a great performance on your part and turned the heads of many fans. Going forward will you now look to regain some of the momentum built up from that victory against Rick and take the Anthony Johnson loss as a learning experience?"

Charlie: "Absolutely. I have a great opponent in Daniel Roberts, and I'll just look to show what got me here in the first place. Onward and upward."

Jay Cee: "As you just mentioned, you will be fighting Daniel "Ninja" Roberts at UFC on FX 1 in January. What are your thoughts on Roberts as an opponent? and how do you see the fight playing out?"

Charlie: "He's explosive, slick with his submissions, a dangerous opponent. While his BJJ might not be as technical as some other guys, I think it is more dangerous. He has submitted some high level fighters, so that's definitely something I'll be training for. I'll just do what I do. Maybe it'll take place on our feet, maybe on the ground. My impulses will take over, I'll just be along for the ride."

Jay Cee: "If I am correct you currently train at AMA Fight Club in New Jersey, will you be bringing any specific fighters or trainers in to help you prepare for the fight against Daniel Roberts?"

Charlie: "I've started working with a few new guys to develop my overall game. I've continued to do my BJJ under John Danaher at Renzo Gracie BJJ in NYC, so I go with the world's best on a weekly basis."

Jay Cee: "What are your goals for 2012, what can we expect from "The Spaniard" over the coming year?"

Charlie: "I can promise you that I'm training everyday to be the best I can be. Win, lose, or draw, I will not stop fighting. Keep up to date on my training via my sites - Charlie-Brenneman.com, @SpaniardMMA, and Charlie "The Spaniard" Brenneman on Facebook."

Jay Cee: "Last question now Charlie...Who is your favorite MMA fighter past or present? And why?"

Charlie: "I don't have a favorite, but I really enjoy watching Matt Wiman fight. He always brings it and never stops pushing the pace."

Jay Cee: "Excellent, well thanks for doing this interview Charlie I really appreciate it. Good luck in your next fight against Daniel Roberts."

The End

UFC introduces a new 125-pound weight class

We are set to see more action from fighters within lighter weight classes at UFC events. UFC president Dana White announced the introduction of a new 125-pound division in the UFC. He made the announcement shortly after UFC 140 had taken place this past weekend. There will be a 125-pound tournament held to determine the title holder for that division.

The first of the tournament fights will take place at UFC on FX 2 which will be held on the 3rd of March 2012. We will see Demetrious Johnson take on Ian McCall and Joseph Benavidez against Yasuhiro Urushitani on the night. These fights will act as the semi-final stage of the tournament leading to a fight between the two winners for the title on a different date.

The introduction of these lighter weight classes adds variation to the type of fights we will see at UFC events. It all ties in very well with the integration of the WEC fighters that moved over when that organisation was closed down. Many of the fights we have seen so far from the lighter weight classes have been exciting and high paced so personally I think it works really well. Also with more shows to fill due to the deal with Fox I think it is great timing to introduce the new weight class.

Thanks Guys,
Jay Cee.

Interview with Middleweight UFC fighter Chris Camozzi

I recently got the chance to catch up with UFC middleweight fighter Chris Camozzi. Check it out..

Jay Cee: "Hi Chris, great to have you on themmareview.co.uk. Firstly I have to start by talking about your most recent fight against Francis Carmont at UFC 137. Unfortunately you lost that fight, please give me your thoughts on the match-up and what you personally think went wrong on the night?"

Chris Camozzi: "My fight with Francis still bothers me. I had a great training camp and I felt awesome going into the cage but for some reason I just didn't pull the trigger. There are no excuses for it and I thought it was a boring fight. I don't know why I was pushing him up on the fence or trying to take him down. I'm not a wrestler and I'm not a boring fighter but for some reason that night I was both. I would love to get that fight back in front of me again but as for now I will move forward to my next opponent."

Jay Cee: "Myself and many others can't wait to see you back in the octagon fighting again. Any news on when we can expect to see you in action next? and is there anyone in particular you would like to fight?"

Chris Camozzi: "My next fight is Jan 28th at UFC on Fox 2 in Chicago vs Dustin Jacoby."

Jay Cee: "What is your favourite part of training? What particular area of your game will you now look to improve or work on in preparation for future fights?"

Chris Camozzi: "My favourite part of training is the fact that its my job. I love being in a gym all day and not in some office. I get to punch and submit guys everyday so there isn't much room for boredom or stress. Most people never get the opportunity to get paid to do something they love. I'm not most people. I'm living my dream and taking full advantage."

Jay Cee: "What gym/gym's do you currently train at?"

Chris Camozzi: "I train at my home Factory X in Denver, Colorado. I also get some wrestling in at Rino Sport Galleri. Colorado is a great fight state and I get the chance to cross train with a lot of great fighters in the area but Factory X is my home."

Jay Cee: "What are your goals for the future? What can we expect to see from Chris Camozzi within the next 5 years?"

Chris Camozzi: "As far as goals for the future, my management, coaches and myself have our eyes set on winning bonuses. Every fight I take I'm going in there to take that extra check home and please the crowd. Id love to be a contender in the next 5 years and a household name!"

Jay Cee: "Last question now Chris...Who is your favorite MMA fighter past or present? And why?"

Chris Camozzi: "My favorite fighter was probably Wand Silva in the pride days. I'm still a Huge fan of Wand now but in the Pride days there was no one like him. I would love to fight like that and that's my goal."

Jay Cee: " Ok, great! Thanks for taking part in the interview Chris and best of luck in your next fight!"

Dustin Jacoby Vs Chris Camozzi will take place at UFC on Fox 2

It has recently been announced that middleweight fighters Dustin Jacoby and Chris Camozzi will face each other at UFC on Fox 2. This event is set to take place at The United Center in Chicago on the 28th of January 2012. Both of these men desperately require a good performance and more importantly a victory to remain within the organisation.

Dustin Jacoby has an MMA record of 6-1 and enters this fight coming off a loss to Clifford Starks at UFC 137. Dustin lost that fight via unanimous decision and will now need to score a big win to get back on track. This UFC debut fight against Starks was his first career loss after having built up a 6 fight winning streak on the regional MMA circuit.

Chris Camozzi will enter this fight with an MMA record of 15-5 and like Jacoby is coming off a loss. Camozzi's last fight was against Francis Carmont at UFC 137, he lost the fight via unanimous decision. Prior to the Carmont fight Chris had won 5 of his last 6 MMA fights, I am sure he will now look to regain some of that form and a victory over Dustin Jacoby would be a good starting point.

Thanks guys,
Jay Cee.

Georges St-Pierre is injured and will not be able to fight at UFC 143

News has emerged that the UFC Welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 143 meeting with Nick Diaz due to an injury. He has a torn ACL which was confirmed by his personal doctor earlier this week. This means that yet again he will not be able to face Nick Diaz. The champion will be out if action for 9-10 months as he will require reconstructive surgery to rectify the problem.

As a replacement for the main event Nick Diaz will now take on Carlos Condit in a battle for an interim belt. This new bout will be the main event for UFC 143. The winner of this interim belt will obviously challenge GSP for the undisputed title once his injury is healed and he is able to compete again.

Originally Carlos Condit was set to fight Josh Koscheck at UFC 143 but this has now been scrapped due to Condit's move to the main event. It is not yet known if Koscheck will remain on the card.

Thanks guys,
Jay Cee.

Carlos Condit Vs Josh Koscheck will take place at UFC 143

A big fight between Carlos Condit and Josh Koscheck has been confirmed to take place at UFC 143 which is set to go down at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on February 4th 2012. This welterweight bout will be the co-main event on the night.

Carlos Condit will enter this fight with an MMA record of 27-5 and a nice string of wins. He is currently on a four fight winning streak and was set to face the UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre at UFC 137. GSP was forced to withdraw from the fight after sustaining a knee injury during training. After this happened the fight was re-sheduled to take place at UFC 143 instead, but as a result of Nick Diaz defeating B.J. Penn and calling out GSP the UFC decided to go with that fight instead. Condit will be next in line to fight GSP if victorious against Josh Koscheck.

Josh Koscheck will enter this bout with an MMA record of 16-5. He is coming off a big win over UFC veteran Matt Hughes at UFC 135 which took place in September of this year. Josh won the fight via knockout in the first round earning "Knockout Of The Night". This fight was Koscheck's first fight back since losing a championship fight against Georges St-Pierre at UFC 124 in December 2010. In that fight Josh suffered a broke orbital bone which left him out of action for approx 7-8 months to allow the injury to heal. He has shown he is back and will now get the chance to take Carlos Condit's momentum if he can score the win. This should be a great fight!

Thanks guys,
Jay Cee.

Jake Ellenberger Vs Diego Sanchez set to take place in February at UFC on Fuel TV event

News has recently emerged that Jake Ellenberger is likely to take on Diego Sanchez at a UFC on Fuel TV event sheduled for February 15th 2012. This welterweight fight will headline an event for which the card has not yet been announced.

Jake Ellenbeger enters this fight with an MMA record of 26-5. He is currently in great form with a five fight winning streak holding recent wins over the likes of John Howard, Mike Pyle, Carlos Rocha and Sean Pierson. Jake's most recent victory was against Jake Shields at the UFC Fight Night: Shields vs. Ellenberger event held in September of this year. Ellenberger scored the victory in the first round via knockout earning himself "Knockout Of The Night" honors.

Diego Sanchez has an MMA record of 23-4 and enters this fight coming off two straight wins against Paulo Thiago at UFC 121 and most recently Martin Kampmann in the headline fight at a UFC Live event held in March of this year. Sanchez earned "Fight Of The Night" honors in both of these fights and will look to carry on the momentum in this fight against Ellenberger. Diego was fighting at lightweight but made the move back to the welterweight division in early 2010. Currently it seems to be working out great and both men look in great shape so I cannot wait to see who comes out on top that night.

Thanks Guys,
Jay Cee.

Product Review: True Fight Gear Rash Guard

I was recently sent a True Fight Gear rash guard by my friends over at martialartssupplies.com - Here is my review on the product....

Style and Appearance
Personally I really like the style and design of the True Fight Gear rash guard. It is short sleeved, the base colours are black for the main body and white for the sleeves. The logo appears on the front at a diagonal angle with three different coloured versions of the logo overlapping each other. The top colour is white with a grey logo underneath and lastly a very dark gray/black logo under that. It is very simple but effective. The logo is again shown on the back of the rash guard near the collar in a white colour, I find this to be a nice touch that complements the design. A bold logo that jumps out mixed with a very basic design and colour choice, It works well and looks great.

Design and Fit
My particular rash guard was a size "Large" which fitted me perfectly. There are rash guards on the market that are generally tight but offer an ever so slightly looser and supposedly more comfortable wear, this is not my preference as I like a tighter fit. The True Fight Gear rash guard was nice and tight on my body allowing me to work comfortably on the ground when making transitions and working on BJJ. The rash guard is noticeably long which is great if you like the option of tucking it into your shorts etc. This prevents any unwanted material rising up when training. The design has visible black stitching on the sleeves, collar and chest of the rashguard. This type of stitching can sometimes cause discomfort and unnecessary rubbing but I have to say I did not notice at all.

Performance and Functionality
When in actual use the rash guard is light and allows for plenty of free movement without any restrictions, this is due to the good quality stitching that you can plainly see on the rash guard itself. I did sweat quite a bit while using it but did not feel the discomfort I have experienced when using other rash guards in the past which is a great bonus. This rash guard is fine to wear under a gi and also feels fine when working on your BJJ and nogi grappling.

Overall Analysis
This is a well made good quality rash guard that I would recommend to anyone looking for a simple and comfortable wear. It does not offer any fancy air vents or materials, just a basic combination of polyester and spandex. Great choice for people who simply want a rash guard that works and provides durability. Overall it is a good piece of gear.
