Hi Guys,
Last night we saw Dan Henderson score a first round TKO against Fedor Emelianenko in one of the most anticipated fights of the year for MMA fans. The fight took place at the Sears Centre Arena and aired on Showtime for fans all over the world to enjoy...and they did. This fight was so big for MMA fans as they would get to see two legends of the sport go at each other. The beginning of the fight was back and fourth and then later in the round we saw Fedor knock Henderson to the ground with a barrage of punches. Then just as it was starting to look bad for Dan he slipped out the back to end up behind Fedor and give him an uppercut to the chin from behind. Fedor dropped to the ground and Henderson proceeded to land punches to the head. The referee Herb Dean then jumped in and stopped the fight. There has been some speculation that the stoppage may have been to quick but it is all said and done now. I will let you make your own decision. Most are satisfied with the fact that Henderson earned the victory and Fedor who has lost his last 3 fights may be looking at retirement.
Thanks Guys,
Jay Cee.

Alistair Overeem has been released by Strikeforce!
Hi guys,
News has recently emerged that the Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem has been released by the organization. This seems to be the end result of a stream of issues that Alistair has had with the promotion recently starting with him being cut from the Heavyweight Grand Prix. Overeem was going to be facing Antonio "bigfoot" Silva in the semi-finals but withdrew due to a broken toe. We now come to find that he has been released by the promotion full stop. This would lead me to think that the winner of the Heavyweight Grand Prix may be gifted the title of heavyweight champion but we will see what happens. I am a fan of Alistair and I am sure we still have a lot more to see of him in MMA. There is also speculation that this could be a move by Zuffa to get Overeem over to the UFC but nothing is yet confirmed. We will see what happens next and I will keep you informed as soon as any information becomes available.
Thanks Guys,
Jay Cee.

Daniel "Ninja" Roberts Vs T.J. Waldburger will happen at UFC Fight Night 25
Hi, guys,
The latest fight confirmed for UFC Fight Night 25 is Daniel "Ninja" Roberts Vs T.J. Waldburger. The 23 year old Waldburger has had two fights within the UFC, one victory and one loss. This will be his third fight and definitely a very tough challenge. Daniel "Ninja" Roberts who is a student of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu has a mixed record in the UFC and really needs a win to get himself back on track after two straight loses to Rich Attonito and Claude Patrick. Waldburger and Roberts both have a lot of submission wins to their name so I will be looking out for the sub attempts in their fight. We may see a battle of Jiu-Jitsu, who knows? I am sure it will be fun!
Thanks guys,
Jay Cee.

Thiago Alves set to fight Papy Abedi at UFC 138
Hi Guys,
Thiago "Pitbull" Alves will be coming to the UK in November to take on UFC newcomer Papy Abedi at the UFC 138 event that will be taking place in Birmingham, England. As many of you know Alves has gone from being one of the top contenders in the division to only getting one victory out of his last four fights for the UFC. It all went downhill after his loss against GSP for the title at UFC 100. After a year off Thiago came back to face Jon Fitch and lost a decision. He did get a victory against John Howard but this was followed by a loss to Rick Story which put a stop to any momentum Alves may have looked to begin. As much as we all love the "Pitbull" there is no way to avoid the fact that another loss would put his career in the UFC at risk and that would be a great shame. Thiago has what I see as one chance to get himself back on track with this fight against newcomer Papy Abedi at UFC 138. Abedi has a record of 8-0 and will not be looking to give up his unbeaten status easily. He has finished seven of his fights by knockout, sub or TKO so we are certain to see some fireworks! Both fighters need to put on a big performance to cement themselves within the organization. So like many fights in the UFC at the moment it should be very interesting to see what happens and who wants it more!
Thanks guys!
Jay Cee.

Alistair Overeem will fight in October
Hi guys,
Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem who recently withdrew from the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix has managed to arrange a fight for October which is what he originally wanted. He may not be fighting in the Strikeforce event but he will compete in October. Overeem is expected to take part in a United Glory event that is set to take place in Russia. Martin De Jong who promotes for United Glory also trains fighters at the Golden Glory gym where Overeem trains. He is likely to have arranged for Overeem to get involved with the event. Alistair's Strikeforce contract apparently allows him to fight for other promotions and Overeem has made use of that. It is suspected that Overeem only has one fight left on his Strikeforce contract so it will be interesting to see what the future holds. I am personally an Overeem fan and would love to see him continue competing at the top levels of MMA.

Phil Baroni Interview - See what the "New York Bad Ass" has been up to!
Picture taken from: Google Images.
Hello readers,
I recently got the chance to catch up with "The New York Bad Ass" Phil Baroni and ask him a few questions. Check it out.....
Jay Cee: "Hi Phil, Firstly I would like to start by asking what you have been up to since your last fight for Titan Fighting Championships where you defeated Nick Nolte and when we can expect to see you fighting next?"
Phil Baroni: "I'm fighting in One FC. It's pretty much hard-core NHB not MMA. It's in a cage PRIDE rules with elbows.....It should be good! Hard Core fight."
Jay Cee: "MMA is becoming more and more well known around the globe with organizations like the UFC and Strikeforce getting bigger year by year, what is your take on that? and will we ever see Phil Baroni back in the UFC?"
Phil Baroni: "Who know's man? I hope so...I think so. But not just 2 and the BBQ like last time. If I get back in I plan on staying and my goal would be to earn another contract."
Jay Cee: "Correct me if I am wrong but you currently train with the American Kickboxing Academy. How is training going? and are there any hot prospects we should keep an eye out for in the future coming out of that camp?"
Phil Baroni: "Training is a grind. All the guys are good, and tough. The big name guys of course, but its the sleepers behind the scenes who know body knows about that make AKA great. The team is tough. Everyone is good. If I would have stayed here since 2006 I'd be a much better fighter than I am today. I only have myself to blame for that. I'm trying to play catch up now and do the best with what i have and the time i've got left."
Jay Cee: "When the day finally comes that you decide to retire from MMA what do you see yourself doing? Training, coaching, commentating etc - will you still be involved with MMA?"
Phil Baroni: "I love MMA and I hope to be able to stay involved and be a part of it some way. So yeah to all of the above."
Jay Cee: "Ok, last question Phil.....You have been fighting in multiple different organizations for over 10 years now, you have fought with various names in the industry like Evan Tanner and Frank Shamrock. What is your most memorable fight? and why?"
Phil Baroni: "I think the best win I had was against Minowa because I proved I still had some fight left in me. I hope to show that once again in ONE FC and prove I still can compete and kick ass. I don't want to retire. I want to have one more run of glory. I know I'd appreciate it more than I did in the past. I just want to be a contender again, be somebody."
The End.
I would like to thank Phil Baroni for taking the time to do this interview with me. I am sure you guys enjoyed it!

Jorge Rivera Vs Constantinos Phillippou now scheduled for UFC 133 due to Sakara Injury
Hi guys,
Alessio Sakara was forced out of his UFC 133 fight against Jorge Rivera with a torn ACL. This left the UFC looking for a replacement to fight Rivera in a short space of time. They did find a replacement in Constantinos Phillippou a contender in "The Ultimate Fighter 11" he did not win the contest but did manage to get a fight in the UFC against Nick Catone in which he lost at UFC 128. It seems he will get another chance as a late replacement against Rivera and this is a great chance for him to prove his worth to the UFC. Jorge Rivera lost his last fight in the UFC to Michael Bisping but prior to that was on a good run. He will now look to get back on track with a win over Phillippou on August 6th.
Thanks guys,

Nate Marquardt signs with UK based promotion BAMMA
Hi guys,
The latest news to emerge about Nate Marquardt is that he has signed to the UK based promotion BAMMA. As most of you may know Nate was released from the UFC over issues relating to the use of testosterone replacement. That has all happened and now Marquardt's suspension has been lifted by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission. This put Nate back on the market and available to promotions. Rather then trying to find a way of getting back into the UFC Nate has decided to sign with the UK's number one promotion BAMMA. This is potentially a great move for him and the promotion which is still growing in popularity all the time. Fighters such as Frank Trigg, Paul Daley and Tom Watson have all worked with the promotion and they continue to bring in more and more top class talent with each event. I very much look forward to seeing Nate in action at BAMMA and would love to see him face Tom "Kong" Watson for the Middleweight title at some point.
Thanks Guys,
Jay Cee.

MMA in Australia: Shindo New Breed MMA Gym
Hi guys,
I was recently talking to a friend from Fight World Cup and they were telling me about all the great things that have been happening within the MMA scene in Australia. I thought it would be great to give my readers and MMA fans across the globe a little update on some of the things going on over there in one of Australia's top MMA gym's.
The Shindo New Breed MMA Gym is based on the gold coast. The gym has been around since 1994 teaching children and adults mixed martial arts in all the forms of combat. They cover everything from striking, grappling and clinching to cardio, endurance and strength training. The gym holds MMA classes for children which is great for teaching discipline from a young age and keeping them fit and healthy. We may even see some of them competing in the UFC or Strikforce one day following in the footsteps of fellow Australian MMA stars Kyle Noke or George Sotiropoulos. MMA is growing in popularity all the time over in Australia just like it is in many countries all over the world. More and more new gym's keep popping up and as long as this keeps happening MMA will continue to dominate the world of combat sports and increasing amounts of new people will be able to learn about mixed martial arts.
Here are some cool websites to check out:
www.shindomma.net - The website for the Shindo New Breed MMA Gym.

Dominick Cruz Vs Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson set for UFC on Versus 6
Hi guys,
Dominick Cruz the UFC Bantamweight champion is scheduled to take on Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson at UFC on Versus 6 which will take place on October 1st in Washington. Cruz is just coming off a victory over Urijah Faber in which he scored a decision in what was a very close fight. Dominick has beaten some tough characters in the division and has won his last nine fights! Two of these nine wins were title defenses over Scott Jorgensen and Joseph Benavidez. This fight is likely to be the main event on the night and Demetrious Johnson will give all to become the new bantamweight champ. Johnson holds wins over Miguel Torres and Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto who are both tough opponents and respected fighters in the division. This is going to be a great headlining fight and I look forward to it!

Urijah Faber to face Brian Bowles at UFC 139
Hey guys,
Urijah Faber and Brian Bowles are set to go head to head at UFC 139 in a fight which will determine the new number one contender for Dominick Cruz's Bantamweight title. Faber lost his last fight which was for the title against Cruz. He lost a narrow decision which left fans asking for an instant re-match. The UFC have decided that they will make Faber work for that re-match and as a result we have this great fight. Former WEC bantamweight champion Brian Bowles will not make things easy for Faber as he is hungry for a title shot himself. Bowles has won his last two fights in the UFC against Mizugaki and Damacio Page. Both fighters are hungry to get their hands on a title shot and I am sure they will both bring their A-game to UFC 139 in November.
Thanks guys,

UFC Fight Night 25: Evan Dunham Vs Shamar Bailey
Hey Guys,
Evan Dunham is set to face Shamar Bailey at UFC Fight Night 25. This is going to be a really exciting fight as these two lightweights will be going at it on September 17th in New Orleans. Bailey is an experienced MMA fighter and will be a tough challenge for Dunham who has lost his last two fights in the UFC. This means that Evan really needs to win this fight to avoid the threat of being kicked from the organization. This fight is part of a great card that is headlined by the Jake Shields Vs Jake Ellenberger fight which should be excellent!
Thanks guys!

UFC 138 main event will be Chris Leben Vs Mark Munoz
Hi guys,
UFC 138 which is set to be held in Birmingham, England will be headlined by Chris "The Crippler" Leben Vs Mark Munoz. The bout was announced by the UFC on tuesday and is scheduled to take place on November 5th 2011 at the National Exhibition Centre. This is going to be a great fight between two middleweight warriors. Chris Leben has just recently won a massive victory over MMA legend Wanderlei Silva at UFC 132 and will look to continue his momentum within the division. Mark Munoz is also having great success at the moment on a current three fight win streak. In his last fight we saw him score a huge victory over BJJ specialist Demian Maia at UFC 131. This main event is going to be exciting and it will be interesting to see what other fights the UFC have planned for this event to be held in the UK.
Thanks guys.

Alistair Overeem removed from the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand-Prix
Hi guys,
Alistair Overeem has been removed from the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand-Prix in which he had reached the Semi-Finals. Overeem was going to be facing Antonio “Big Foot” Silva in a semi final bout which I have to say I was quite looking forward to. The fight was scheduled to take place on September 11th 2011 but Overeem refused to take part because apparently he did not feel he was being given enough time to prepare for the fight. Alistair wanted the fight to be postponed until October/November but Zuffa/Showtime were sticking to the the date scheduled for September. This lead to Overeem declining to fight and being replaced by Daniel Cormier who will now fight Silva instead.
Thanks Guys.

Is the UFC becoming more popular then Boxing?
Hi Guys,
I thought I would do a post on this topic as it is something I find very interesting as a debate. I also know that many MMA fans and boxing fans have their own opinions on this topic. Here are my views...
I believe that the UFC has become more popular then boxing because it is a more rounded sport. For the modern day fight fan boxing has become to one dimensional. Boxing only allows for punches to be thrown. I do know that to be a good boxer it takes a tremendous amount of skill and many hours of training and hard work in the gym. This in itself demands respect and I think you would find that many UFC and MMA fans would agree boxing is a form of combat or fighting that will always be respected throughout the world. In fact many if not every UFC fighter has trained in boxing at some point in their career. Both MMA and Boxing are regulated sports with rules, but I feel that MMA instantly gives the viewer more variety and the feeling that an actual fight is happening in which many different styles may be used and incorporated for a fighter to be victorious.
A boxer can only throw punches as a form of attack. There are many different types of punches that can be thrown but ultimately it is all stand up based fighting where punches are thrown and the body is used in different ways to block or avoid these punches. UFC on the other hand is completely different offering many different disciplines and styles for example a Brazilian Jujitsu fighter may face a Judo or Karate fighter. The fights can also involve many different levels of combat. The fight can be fought while standing or it can go to the ground where and entirely new set of situations and outcomes for the fight can arise. Fighters can be submitted or knocked out. UFC fighters need to be able to handle the fight in any possible area of the octagon, whether it be on the ground or standing up. I think this is what makes the sport so exciting.
I have actually been to a UFC fan expo and live UFC events and I had a great time. There is nothing better then experiencing live UFC action for a fight fan. I can see UFC expanding to major levels in the future as the sport is constantly growing and evolving across the globe. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for Boxing. I believe there will always be a place in the sporting world for boxing, but there is only so far it can go and I feel it may already have hit it's peak. In saying that I do also think that people like David Haye for example bring back an exciting edge to boxing which was seen in the past with such legends as Muhammad Ali and the way he talked up fights. We do not see this as much these days in boxing, but I think that as long as young exciting boxers keep coming through and maing the sport interesting it can still be successful. To sum this up the UFC gets my vote for the future and I can see it growing to become the world leader in regards to a combat sport. As for boxing.....it is boxing and always will be boxing.
Thanks guys.
I would be interested to hear your comments.
Jay Cee.

Jay Cee.

Anthony "Rumble" Johnson to face Charlie Brenneman in October.
Hi guys,
Many of you MMA fans will be familiar with the name Charlie Brenneman. His popularity shot through the roof when he defeated Rick Story at a UFC live event recently. Brenneman stepped in as a last minute replacement for Nate Marquardt in the fight against Story. This paid off greatly for Charlie who took the victory over Story who was in great shape at the time and looking to make a run for the welterweight title. Charlie shocked the MMA world by defeating Story and stealing his thunder. We now learn that Charlie Brenneman will be facing Anthony "Rumble" Johnson on October 1st 2011. They will fight at a UFC live event taking place in Washington. Johnson recently defeated UK fighter Dan "The Outlaw" Hardy with his wrestling ability. This victory was a good comeback to the sport for Anthony after a long time off with injuries. The fight in October should be great and I presume would put the winner in the mix as a top rank contender in the welterweight division.

UFC 133 update: Nogueira is injured and no longer fights Rich Franklin.
Hi Guys,
UFC 133 seems to be cursed with injuries popping up all over the place and fights having to be changed. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira who was sheduled to fight UFC veteran Rich Franklin has had to pull out of the fight due to an injury. I do not yet have any information on what the actual injury is but I can tell you that Dana White tweeted that "lil nog" is out of UFC 133: Click here to view the tweet
Thanks guys.

July 30th 2011 - Strikforce & M1 Global: Fedor Vs Henderson
Hi Guys!
I am really excited about the scheduled fight between the two mma legends Fedor Emelianenko and Dan Henderson. The Fight will take place on Saturday the 30th of July and I can't wait! These two men are considered to be among the greatest mma fighters ever to compete in a cage or ring. Both men have careers spanning over 10 years in the industry. Fedor has lost his past two fights within Strikeforce. Henderson on the other hand has won his last two fights. I do not believe this will have any bearing on the fight and how it will play out. I feel both fighters have vast experience and will fight to the best of their ability on the night. This fight between these two legends is definitely one for the calendar. You will not want to miss it!
Thanks guys.

General update on UFC 133 and more....
Hi guys!
I am back from vacation and here to give you a well overdue installment of the MMA Review. I will start with the biggest news. As you may be aware there has been a lot of uncertainty over what the main event would be at UFC 133. The main reason for this is because of the knee injury that Phil Davis sustained during training that forced him to have to pull out of his main event fight against Rashad Evans. The UFC started looking for a new opponent to face Evans. The first to pop up was Tito Ortiz who turned down the offer as he apparently felt it was to soon to jump back into training camp just after his fight against Ryan Bader in which he won. The UFC moved on and Lyoto Machida who is a former champion himself and looking to make his way back to the top again was next on the list. Lyoto Machida accepted the fight but this was sort lived when apparently Machida's camp requested to much money for Lyoto to take part in the fight, so the UFC moved on and went looking for a new opponent. At this point Tito Ortiz called the UFC up and accepted the fight. So alot of uncertainty but now we have ourselves a good main event. Lets just hope no one else gets injured. Ortiz is a former champion and UFC legend, Evans is a considered one of the best in the division so this should make for a great fight!
I also just want to mention how impressed I have been with the last two UFC events that have been on. The UFC Live Event featuring Kongo vs Barry and the UFC 132 event were both amazing cards regardless of injuries etc. It goes to show that the sport is constantly getting better and more exciting as time goes by. The level of competition is very high and continues to rise. Props to the UFC for maintaining the high quality levels.
Thanks guys!
